Description:

How far do we go to make sure dogs are comfortable and well-adjusted while they are at the shelter? Windy is terrified at the thought of climbing into a car. We don’t know what happened to her in the past; the only encounter she has had with a vehicle since her arrival was to go to the Spay Neuter Clinic and back. However, she is clearly not happy about the thought of climbing into a vehicle again. Yesterday, Joe was willing to crawl on the ground to comfort her and show her that we aren’t going to force her to do anything. It will all be at her choosing. We spent an hour tossing treats, letting her take her time getting them, and then allowed her to back off again. We know from experience that several sessions may be needed in order for her to feel comfortable. We are there for you Windy! **Windy is calm and gentle and walks beautifully on a leash. Now that she is officially available for adoption, we are happy to note that she is great with other dogs, but we are also saddened because we learned that she is heartworm positive. Heartworms do not have to prevent a dog from being adopted, however! We are thrilled that we are able to share our resources with her adopter, and take care of her heartworm positive status. You’re looking for a housetrained dog, one that’s great with children, and can’t wait to be your best companion, please consider Windy.
