Male Dog, Terrier
Terrier / Mixed (Medium Coat)
Description:
This handsome boy has been in his local foster home for a month now. We have seen Elliott do well as an only dog, but he really thrives with a canine companion. He loves to play and gains confidence from his canine pals. He’s a naturally sweet and gentle pup who has also been fostered with young children and is very gentle with them, showing no fear or resource-guarding tendencies around toys or food. Elliott has wonderful house manners—he is both housetrained and crate-trained, and his crate serves as his safe space. He is an active boy who enjoys daily walks and playtime. His leash manners are great, and he meets other dogs well on walks. While he may bark at the mailman or visitors, but he doesn’t react excessively to everyday noises outside the home. He’s also discovered the joy of toys in his foster home—fetch is his new favorite game, and he happily brings the ball back to you. Elliott was rescued as a stray. He was spotted by a Good Samaritan near a Burger King, crossing a busy intersection in search of food. A member of our team was notified and we discovered that Elliott and his mate had been abandoned and were surviving in the crawl space of an empty house. We were able to trap Elliott but are still looking for his mate. Understandably, Elliott was initially skittish around strangers, but with a little patience and love, he’s learned to trust. One thing we’ve learned is that Elliott is initially fearful of men, and having a female in the home is key for his transition. He will need more time to warm up to and will need extra time to warm up to adult males in his home. His foster dad has been working with him, and after a few weeks, we’ve seen progress. While he is never aggressive, Elliott may bark or shy away from men at first, but with a little patience and positive reinforcement, he’ll continue to build his confidence. Elliott is a smart, affectionate pup who learns quickly and will make a great family dog. Once he trusts you, he becomes the ultimate cuddle buddy and loyal little shadow. He’s wonderful with kids and will thrive in a home that gives him the time and support he needs to adjust. Apply today!
