Male Dog, Beagle
Beagle (Medium Coat)
Description:
Meet AJ! This handsome little Beagle boy was given away by his owner simply because he wouldn't hunt, and what a lucky break that turned out to be. AJ, like most hunting dogs, lived isolated in an outdoor hutch, only let out to chase and retrieve. These dogs aren't treated as pets, rarely allowed indoors, and miss out on the love and human connection dogs like AJ deserve. Beagles are some of the sweetest, most affectionate dogs you'll ever meet, and AJ is no exception. AJ is currently being fostered with four dogs and two cats and has had a seamless integration into his new pack. He's playful, dog-friendly, and would love a canine buddy in his forever home, but he's also confident enough to thrive as a solo pup. As for the cats, AJ either ignores them or lets them cuddle up with him. He's an equal-opportunity snuggler! Still very much an adolescent pup, AJ is full of joyful energy and would happily play all day. He enjoys running around the backyard and, true to Beagle form, can be a little vocal during play. He’s crate-trained and sleeps in his crate at night. Since being neutered, he hasn’t had an accident in over a week and is doing great with regular potty breaks. His leash skills are a work in progress. At first, he would lie down or crouch when the leash went on, but he's making solid progress and is now up and walking. Here’s what his foster mom, Johanna, had to say: “He’s doing great! It took him about a week to figure out what life outside a hutch is like, but now his little personality is starting to shine. He’s super snuggly and will roll over for belly rubs all day long. Everything is new to him, and it’s so fun watching him explore the basics. He thinks being inside is AMAZING and always tries to come in from the yard. He’s affectionate, curious, and just a happy little puppy. He’s been great with all of my dogs. He LOVES food but isn’t food aggressive. I can feed him right next to my other dogs, and he totally respects their space. He’s still figuring out what a toy is and what it's not…and loves draggin my throw rugs around.AJ doesn’t jump on the furniture (even though the other dogs do!) and is learning what a toy is and what is not. He’s just very puppy-like and still figuring it all out. He’s very sweet and such a petite guy, only 20 pounds, and absolutely adorable.” Socially, AJ may crouch or be a little timid when meeting new people, but give him two seconds, and he’ll be your best friend. ******* This sweet, happy Beagle boy will make a wonderful addition to your family. He’d thrive in an active home and would especially love having a resident dog buddy or kids to play with. Apply today to meet AJ and give him the loving home he deserves!
