Male Dog,

Unknown Breed (Short Coat)

Description:

Meet Johnny Cash, the Man in Black himself! Johnny is as genuine as they come. He’s a sensitive guy who’s doing his best to turn his life’s struggles into beautiful songs. Johnny is looking for a family of like-minded homebodies that appreciate his sweet, introverted qualities. He's a gentle soul, and it takes him time and patience to warm up to new people. He looks to his humans for reassurance in anxious situations and benefits from calm, patient humans. Once he’s comfortable, his foster parents describe him as a big, goofy, snuggly baby with the most soulful puppy dog eyes! He loves food and adores his toys, cuddling up to them in a pile when he sleeps (even his hard chew bones)! He gets excited for indoor activities to keep his brain busy, like food puzzles, snuffle mats, and practicing training- he knows sit, down, come, and touch! He also loves wrapping his favorite toys in his own blankets! He will let you know when he wants something with cute little piglet grunts and nudges. Johnny’s favorite place is curled up on the sofa, where he will gladly snooze the day away. His funniest trait is that he's quite the active dreamer, so he tends to wiggle around in silly positions as he sleeps! One of his most endearing qualities is his curiosity! Johnny Cash can be shy and afraid of a lot of things (including the wind), but given time to adapt to his surroundings, he methodically explores the world little by little. You can see him slowly push out of his comfort zone, pause to build up more courage, and then continue at his own pace. Johnny can become easily overwhelmed while outside, so he would love some outdoor space to call his own! Because Johnny has fear and anxiety-based behaviors, he is on a special medication that has helped him feel more comfortable in his own skin. It’s important for an adopter to plan to continue his care and medication under the guidance of a vet behaviorist and a certified, rewards-based dog trainer. Johnny came to PAWS after being found with an injury, but he's healed up very well! He does have an ongoing skin issue that we are treating, and an adopter would need to plan to continue treatment as needed. We're still learning more about how Johnny would feel about living with other animals, but we're optimistic that he would do well with a confident and patient buddy to encourage him to come out of his shell a bit more. Johnny would appreciate a home without young children because they tend to overwhelm him. If you’re looking to open your heart to help a very special, shy guy, Johnny is waiting for you! He’d love nothing more than to snuggle up, listening to your favorite tunes together. Adopt Johnny Cash today and let the music play!
