Male Cat, Domestic Short Hair

Domestic Short Hair

Description:

Brooks is definitely a velcro kitty. He loves his people and wants to be with them. He gets frustrated and can act out when he separated from his people or anticipates being separated. This is likely an extreme teenage behavior that he will grow out of as he understands he is not being abandoned again. He just needs to gain confidence and feel assured that he’s not alone. He is a rambunctious boy so his new family will have to appreciate that and also know that he will need occasional correction as he’s learning boundaries. He will need very slow introductions to other pets in the home as he can exert his dominance, even though he hasn’t earned his place yet. In his first foster home he did well with the resident large dog and cat but in his second foster home, he wanted to chase down and attack the other cats when unexpected meetings occurred twice. From Brooks 1st foster family: This boy loves people and likes to give hugs by putting his front paws on your shoulders and squishing his face into yours. He is extremely affectionate and very silly. He loves to play too. He does nip when he doesn't like being contained and doesn't know his own strength so it can hurt. That seems to settle down once he has his freedom but pickup when he wants to play and he may tell you no with a nip. He needs to learn from his people with a firm "NO" when that happens so he doesn't continue thinking that is okay. His foster mom said this most recently: I think Brooks will be a great cat but don’t recommend him in a home with small children. He has the free roam of the house and is so sweet. Gets along with the resident cat, my dog and enjoys venturing around the house. He does have a drive to try and go through doorways so I’m super careful about opening the front door. I think he wouldn’t hesitate to go outside. He was outside when he was found. He has been great inside but will likely remain a door dasher so caution is necessary. And someone that will activtely play with him a couple times a day to help get his energy out will really be necessary for this active boy.Meet Brooks by completing our online adoption application. All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, FELV/FIV tested, dewormed and started on monthly flea preventative. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at [email protected] for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC.
