Sugar Pie
Status: Last posted as 'available' on 03/05/25

Female Dog, Akbash

Akbash / Anatolian Shepherd (Short Coat)

Description:

Sugar Pie and her sister Honey Bunch were about 4 months old when they were captured from a ranch where they were born to working livestock guardian parents. The ranch has Boer goats and longhorn cattle, so Sugar Pie has been around goats literally for her whole life. The pups were completely unsocialized when they arrived. They were ALSO deathly ill with parvo. Sugar Pie was hospitalized for about a week, which was crazy expensive, but it was helpful in her socialization. She is still shy on meeting new people, but she will always come to US to ask for a treat and some petting, so we know she can transfer her affection to a new family. Sugar Pie is really playful with other dogs, and she has learned to accept our barn cats. She accepts correction from our lead LGD, but the only time she gets corrected if she is running and playing closer to the goats than Miss Rennie thinks she should be. Sugar Pie has never had any worrisome interactions with our Nigerian Dwarf goats, and our guess is that the very large Boer goats in her original home taught her to respect them. Sugar Pie needs to be teamed up with an adult LGD if adopted as a working dog. Complete the application here if you would like to schedule a time to meet his sweet girl. PLEASE NOTE: The 80 lb weight is an estimate based on a combination of her actual weight at her last vet visit plus an estimated amount for growth. She could easily be 90-100 lbs by the time she's an adult.
