Male Dog, Great Dane

Great Dane / Mixed

Description:

LOCATION: Helotes, TXDOB: 08/14/2020Duke: A Big Personality with a Bigger HeartDuke is a one-of-a-kind Great Dane mix with a powerful story and an even more powerful presence. At around four years old and 80 pounds, he was pulled from the shelter just an hour before his time was up—and he’s been making the most of his second chance ever since. This confident, loyal boy thrives in a home where leadership is clear and consistent. Duke respects structure and boundaries, but without them, he’s quick to step into the role of boss—regardless of who’s on the other end of the leash. That’s why he’s best suited for an adult or teen household with dog-savvy individuals who understand canine communication and are comfortable setting limits with love and firmness. Duke is great with people, but young children aren’t the right fit for his energy and personal space needs.Duke enjoys the company of other dogs—especially those who love to play—and he’s done well meeting cats, showing respectful curiosity with no signs of prey drive. He should be fed separately, though, as he prefers to keep his bowl to himself. He’s crate-free, house-trained, knows how to use a doggie door, and doesn’t get into anything he shouldn’t. He’s got “gentleman” energy indoors but loves to let loose outside, whether he’s sunbathing, playing in the hose, or dunking his head into his water bucket. He’s even flirting with the idea of swimming, but hasn’t fully committed yet.Despite his many strengths, Duke is still a work in progress. He struggles with leash manners, tends to rush through doors and up stairs, and has a stubborn streak. He may growl when asked to do something he’s not in the mood for, and if he’s redirected while acting out—like leash biting—he may snap. He’s not malicious; he just needs a home that will guide him firmly and confidently. A trainer is already available to help ease the transition for his future foster or forever family.Duke also has some old-man hips, so he’ll need joint supplements to stay comfortable and mobile as he ages. He doesn't like thunderstorms and will need a home that can offer him a safe space during those times. At his core, Duke is a loyal, affectionate dog who wants to be close to his people and enjoy the good life he nearly missed. He’s ready to bond, learn, and thrive with someone who sees the good in him and knows how to bring out his best.If you think you’re the right match to foster or foster-to-adopt this remarkable boy, the Save Rocky team would love to hear from you.========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .For more information, please email us at [email protected].
