Male Dog, Chihuahua

Chihuahua / Mixed (Short Coat)

Description:

To apply to adopt this dog now, complete our adoption application HERE To see our upcoming events where you can meet some of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 5 1/2 years (as of 3/1/24) Weight: 12.5 pounds (as of 3/26/24) Location: RI Snickers is available for adoption to Massachusetts residents, as well as those in the other New England states. This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Snickers is a very small adult Chihuahua mix, who has been living in a shelter with his former housemate Chachee, who is also available for adoption from SOS. Snickers and Chachee belonged to an older woman who died last year, and her family decided not to keep the two dogs. When they arrived at the shelter, they were very frightened and hard to handle, but now that they have adjusted, they are described as "snuggle bugs," who are "quite fun." The shelter workers think that his facial markings resemble the world's cutest little mohawk. Snickers has had no known exposure to men or children, but he has enjoyed interacting with all of the women who work at the shelter. He is so small that he may not be the best fit for a home with young children. He is cautious when meeting new people but give him a little time and he is ready for pets! He tends to be submissive when he meets new dogs, but he enjoys playing with Chachee, and will bark and chase him. He would almost certainly love to be adopted along with his pal, but they can also be placed in different homes. When he was exposed to cats at the shelter, he was initially scared, but then tolerated them in an encouraging way. Snickers was reportedly housebroken when he lived with his former owner however, he has had a few accidents with his current foster but seems to do ok with regular trips outside. He is comfortable on his leash and in his crate. He doesn't like to be left alone and will whine and bark when his foster leaves for work but eventually settles. He loves cuddling on your lap for hours and is something of a couch potato. However, he also likes going for walks, playing with toys, and splashing in water. We believe that Snickers will be a gentle and wonderful companion to whomever is fortunate enough to bring him home. If you are looking for a very cuddly and affectionate friend, Snickers is your guy! Medical Note: Moderate plaque and tartar build on teeth; no gingivitis, root exposure or blackness observed. Tooth brushing/dental chews could help. Dental hygiene is most commonly thought to be reflective of a combination of diet, hygiene and genes. A sedated dental should be considered the next time the dog needs to be under anesthesia. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
