Female Dog, Shih Tzu

Shih Tzu (Long Coat)

Description:

Please contact Angel ([email protected]) for more information about this pet. We know, you thought she was an Ewok, but no, Daisy is actually an adorable 5-year-old, 15-lb Shih tzu with a sweet soul and a gentle spirit. She has beautiful 'cinnamon' coloring that is a red gold with just a touch of black earning her ALL the fall nicknames....pumpkin butt, pumpkin muffin, sweet potato...well, you get the idea! This little spice girl was used as a breeder for most of her life, sold, and just when she thought she caught a break, she was rejected in her new home for not potty training quick enough. But her story doesn't end there, at our rescue she got the patience and love she needed to make AMAZING progress in her foster home. Over the last few months she's learned to walk on a leash, go up and down steps (mostly) and now she regularly goes potty outside. (hooray!!) That doesn't mean she won't need more training though. We would say she's about 80%-90% house-trained. Potty outside is still very new to Daisy and her foster mom stays on top when she goes, taking her for regular potty breaks every 3-4 hours and giving her a "potty party" (lots of praise and a treat) to encourage her progress. Her new family will need to be prepared to continue working with her. So if you're looking for typical 'mature' dog, that is NOT Daisy - Daisy is just starting out and is more similar to a puppy who is learning than a mature dog who knows what's up. Daisy was not a pampered pet - she was a 'working girl' breeder. There's a difference. Daisy loves going for car rides, making new canine pals in her foster home and playing with her squeeky toys (which she hoards from all the other pups like a little dragon). She hasn't met a human that she doesn't like, even those mini ones they call 'kids'. Because of her background, we feel Daisy will do best in a home with another little pup to be her buddy. While Daisy also enjoys short strolls around the block, she is not cut out for long walks. Her smooshy face and bowed front legs (common for shih-tzu) make longer distances (more than a block or two) very uncomfortable. Surprisingly for a small dog, Daisy is quiet as a mouse….as long as she has someone with her. Leave and she'll tell the neighbors (LOUDLY) that she has been abandoned and she is NOT happy about it! So, it's probably best if Daisy's new family has a schedule that allows someone to be home a good amount of the day. She would make a GREAT work from home buddy! When her foster parents DO go out, Daisy usually stays in her doggy playpen to keep her safe and out of trouble. She's not a fan, but she also never tries to break out. When it's time to wind down for the night, Daisy snuggles with her humans in the big bed without a problem. So, if you think you're a match for this sweet-as-pumpkin-pie pup complete an application on our website! Adoption Fee: $350 – INCLUDES spay/neuter, microchip, vaccines, and current prevention.
