German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (Medium Coat)

Description:

Hi! My name is Black Hawk and I am a 12-week tri-colored German Shepherd mix! I am roughly 15 pounds and growing. Like the helicopter I am named after, I am rough and ready for any adventure that lays ahead! I love to explore the world and check out all the new sights, scents and sounds around me. My foster home is a farm, so there is plenty here to catch my interest to include other dogs, cats, ferrets, horses and goats. Once in a while my foster mom has to remind me to be on my best manners with the cats. I am not really bad, I just want to see if they want to run and play with me. I LOVE to play! I would love to have another dog in my furever home, but don't require one. I do have a bit of an independent streak and will sometimes go off exploring our big yard on my own. Because of this, I will need a fenced in yard as I grow. If something is really interesting, I tend to ignore what is going on around me but then I remember that my foster family has food and treats, and I come running. I LOVE food! When it's mealtime I like to sing the song of my people so that I can encourage them to feed me first. My foster family feeds me all my meals in my crate so that I don't steal from my siblings, and I also get a slow feeder as I get really excited and eat too fast. Apparently, I am highly food motivated!! After a lot of exploring and tussling with my siblings I enjoy a good snuggle on the couch with my foster dad to dream up new adventures to be had. My crate training is going really well. It is where I get my meals and every time I go in, I get a small treat. I sleep in my crate at night, too. If I need a potty break in the middle of the night, I will let you know. Because I am still a baby, I will need someone to continue to work with me on potty training. I haven't met any kids yet, but my foster mom thinks I would get along fine with them. They just need to understand I am a puppy and do all the puppy things, like chew on things that I am not supposed to. Lots of toys I can gnaw on and play with would be awesome! If you are interested in meeting me, reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . I am being fostered near Southern Pines.
