Description:
Online Adoption Application › Meet, Darlin! One of the most special dogs I have ever encountered! Darlin got her name, from the good Samaritan that spent over 2 months, in a field, in the hot summer sun, trying to regain this sweet dog’s trust. We have no idea how she ended up in that field, but we do know she was weary of people and wouldn’t get near a vehicle. Each night the volunteer would pull into the field, and this sweet pup would run up to her, tail wagging; as she got out of her car she would say, “Hey Darlin!” So, we thought that it was fitting to keep that name. Eventually we got a slip lead on her and loaded up in my car. She was nervous on the ride home but kept looking at me for reassurance. When we got home, I brought her in the house and she immediately got a toy. Then she went outside and immediately trotted around with her tail wagging; within minutes we were introducing her to our two dogs. As the night progressed our cat came out and Darlin sniffed her and kept walking. Then she plopped on the couch and wanted belly rubs. When we went to feed everyone, she waited patiently for everyone else to get their food, and then got hers. We work long days and she hasn’t had an accident yet. We have had multiple weekends with visitors, and a huge party with over 50 people in attendance. And she has been nothing but perfect in any situation she has been in. If she is nervous, she looks to her person for support and direction. She understands: “off” “sit” “wait” and is excited to learn anything that will make her people happy. What I am trying to say is, this dog is dog friendly, cat interested (you will have to introduce everyone and keep an eye on her for the first few months- not because she’s aggressive, but because she wants to play), non-food aggressive, easily trainable, loving, social, and is awesome at entertaining herself with a toy or Kong. In short, she is nothing short of perfect! While she really needs an active family that wants to bring their fur baby with them, she will also be able to hang out at home during the weekdays. She wants nothing more than to be with her people and play; but she will also snuggle right in and chill out. And I don’t know why, but I think she would really rock a pink tutu! Darlin is up to date on shots. She did test as light heartworm positive, but we have started the slow kill process and will only require one more shot in February to complete the treatment. She does seem to have a slight allergy to chicken in her food so she is currently on a lamb and rice kibble.
