Foster notes, 5/11/24:Noah is a very sweet, people centered boy. He is so good natured, and very capable of just chilling out while you go about your own activities. He vocalizes very minimally, mostly the occasional whine when he needs something. He loves to play with his toys, especially his squeaky pig, and is fairly content to play on his own, although he much prefers that you get involved! He can be very timid of things like loud cars, noises in the house like the dryer and the blender, but not to the point of immobility. And he is gaining confidence! He has some fear of having a collar/leash put on him. We provide a training treats when securing him, and once it's on he does very well. He walks at heel, except in high-sensory environments like downtown, in which case he needs firmer comands and more treats to maintain his attention. He is food/treat motivated, but has not shown any aggression at all regarding it. In one day he went for a hike, to a market in downtown, and the dog park! He did well meeting people and other dogs on leash, but he is easily distracted and a little nervous with a lot of noise/interaction. I believe with more exposure he will become more confident. He did wonderfully at the dog park and had lots of fun running and playing with the other dogs. His experience with cats is unknown. He came across many kids downtown and didn't treat them any differently than the adults he met, but his experience is limited. Although he is still very much a puppy, he appears to be house trained, or at least understands that outside is the better place to go. He did have a couple of accidents on his first day with us. Now that he's more comfortable in our home and we better understand his tells, he alerts when he needs to go out and we haven't had any more accidents. He has also done very well holding it through each night. He knows how to sit, but we are working on Paw, Lay Down, and Get Down (he jumps on you occasionally when playing). We are practicing redirecting his attention from distractions when walking. He does fairly well unless another dog is acting erratic, in which case he is prone to matching their energy. We are not currently crate training him as we do not have access to a crate, but he does like to get under the coffee table, so it may be something he wouldn't mind. We have not yet left him in the home unsupervised for longer than a few minutes at a time. He does `test` things, like picking up socks, eating houseplants and their soil, and so on. He leaves it as soon as he is corrected, but given his age I think it will take a little while to fully trust him alone for long periods of time. The only two significant negative behaviors I can think of: he has a tendency to `mouth` when playing. He does not bite hard, but he likes to use your hand as a toy when he starts to become more hyper. We are practicing redirecting him to a toy instead of mouthing. He has absolutely no recall. If he is left to his own devices, he will walk away and follow someone else home. We are practicing getting him to come when called. I believe this could also improve by him becoming bonded to the person doing the calling. He is medium energy. He has bursts of high energy play, but he calms down fairly quickly. He is much happier when he's has plenty of moderate exercise. I think he would do well in a home that can provide him with training and a securely fenced in yard that he can run around and play fetch in. He would also enjoy daily walks. Although not neccesary, he would likely do well with another dog, maybe an adult who can set the tone and show him the ropes.
