Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (Short Coat)
Description:
Meet Shaker! (Or Clay… or whatever name you shout when he’s got your Crocs again.) Location: Raleigh, NC This spunky little guy is approximately 12 weeks old and was recently rescued from an overcrowded shelter with his sibling thanks to ACDRA. Now he's settling into foster care — and trust us, he's making himself very known and comfortable. Shaker is ALL puppy: sweet as can be, endlessly curious, and busy, busy, BUSY. If it’s not nailed down, he wants to explore it. And if it is nailed down… well, he’ll probably still give it a shot. What You Need to Know: Breed-savvy adopters only, please! Shaker will only be placed in a home with prior Australian Cattle Dog (ACD) experience. This breed is not for the faint of heart or casual dog owner. He WILL test the limit of boundaries, 5x a day. Highly food motivated (watch your fingers!) – He eats like it’s an Olympic sport. He’ll need a slow feeder and even some hand feeding to slow him down. Crocs beware. Shaker has a thing for shoes – especially the holey, rubbery kind. Tidy homes only, folks! Potty training is a work in progress, but he's getting there! He needs frequent breaks and lots of praise. Good with dogs: Lives with two older ACDs and is respectful (so far). At first meeting a new one may seem scary, but after letting him ease into the new scenario, his playful heart comes out. Learning about cats: Lives with 7 cats currently – curious, but manageable. Crate trained and sleeps well through the night – after a long day of chaos, of course. What Shaker’s Dream Home Looks Like: No kids under 12 – He’s a lot of dog in a small package. Another dog in the home – He'd do well with another playful dog to teach him doggy things. Very active humans only who are ready for the daily commitment and socialization dedication – A few throws of the ball in the backyard will not cut it. He’ll need mental and physical enrichment daily - meeting new people, meeting new sounds, new environments, training, training, training! Potential sport or working home – Shaker is brave, confident, and already chasing down frisbee rollers like a champ. If you’re looking for a pup to grow into agility, disc, or another sport, this could be your guy. Shaker is bold, smart, and full of potential — but he’s not a blank slate. He needs structure, socialization, and someone who understands the intensity and brilliance of the ACD mind. If you’re ready for the challenge (and reward) of raising an ACD pup with a lot of spice and a lot of heart — Shaker is ready to meet you.
