Description:
Sanderson "Sandy" Pembroke, MA Momma Sanderson has finished raising her little imps and is now looking for a forever home of her own! She has really been coming into her own here in foster, and will make an excellent companion for the right adopter. Sandy has been a moderately active girl who absolutely loves trail time: exploring and sniffing all the sniffs in the woods is her favorite! She took some time to get comfortable on a leash, but now doesn't mind it at all and looks forward to her walks. She needed slower integration with other dogs initially, but that appears to have been largely due to hormones and her maternal instincts towards her puppies (they were only 3wks old when they arrived). At this point she's been introduced to many new dogs both here and out on pack walks, and has been super neutral towards everyone. She's been happy to hang out in small groups, and now that she's comfortable has been showing a bit more interest in interactions and play with other respectful dogs. Sandy has also done well meeting new people, though she hasn't spent time around children so kids 8+ may be best. While she hasn't met any cats yet, I haven't seen any prey drive from her so I anticipate she will be fine with slow integration. Because Sandy was an outdoor dog prior to coming into foster, she's needed some time to learn inside manners and rules. She's taken super well to her crate, and is doing well with housetraining. We are still working on manners like counter-surfing, but her training is coming along! She's a very sweet, sensitive kid and responds well to gentle guidance. Added bonus: she's been very food motivated and enjoys training. Pretend she's an adolescent pup and she'll be golden! Sandy is a small 35lbs, and is estimated to be around 2-3 years old. She will be ready for adoption after recovering from her spay (scheduled for 12/11). Sandy is microchipped, and is up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. She is being fostered in Pembroke, MA and needs to meet her potential family prior to adoption to ensure a great match.
