Male Dog, Jack Russell Terrier
Jack Russell Terrier / Beagle / Mixed (Short Coat)
Description:
His name is Carolyn's Nickels … or is it George?? Let us explain. This sweet, soulful boy came into our lives with the name George. But we already had too many Georges (seriously, it’s a thing), so we gave him a fancy new name for adoption purposes to help him stand out. And while the name may be different, the dog underneath is still 100% George: loyal, loving, sensitive, and just a little bit goofy in the best possible way. George is about 5 years old and weighs around 25 pounds. We’re guessing he’s a mix of Jack Russell, Beagle, and Chihuahua — with just the right amount of scruffy charm and expressive ears that tilt when you talk to him. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be where you are, who listens intently when you speak, and who has the gentlest soul wrapped up in a playful little package. George gets along beautifully with other dogs — he’s currently living with five, and it’s nothing but wagging tails and shared toys. In fact, he MUST have a doggy companion as he does not like being left alone without supervision. He doesn’t guard food or toys, and he’s not a barker (unless he sees something that is really interesting, and then you’ll get a classic Beagle “hellooo!”). George is house-trained, crate-trained, and sleeps soundly through the night — either snuggled next to your bed or curled up right beside you, if you’re the “dogs on the bed” type. He’s also amazing in the car — calm, quiet, and happy to be along for the ride. He walks nicely on leash and loves his toys, but what really sets George apart is his heart. He can be shy in new situations — the kind of dog who freezes or gently steps back when he’s unsure — but he doesn’t panic. He just needs a moment. And when you give him that moment, something beautiful happens: he leans into you with full trust. And once you earn George’s trust, you’ll never walk alone again. George doesn’t need another dog in the home, but he’d sure love the company. And while we do recommend crating him when he’s alone (he’s still learning that not all throw pillows are edible), he truly just wants to be a good boy. George tested positive for heartworm and is undergoing treatment here in NJ. George is ready to find his person. The one who sees past the name and into the kind, quirky, deeply loving dog behind it. If that sounds like you, apply at www.northstarpets.org — and don’t forget to mention George (aka Carolyn's Nickels … it’s complicated, but he’s worth it).
