Callahan came to the shelter on 4/7/2026 from the city pound when his stray hold was finished. He is pure energy in canine form. We think he's a pit bull mix of some kind, maybe with a smaller breed like rat terrier or Jack Russell. He seems to be around a year old, if not a little younger, and he has all the bells and whistles of a young, active dog. We will need to rein him in soon, long enough to get him vet checked and neutered. His fee is $150. Callahan needs someone who is ready, willing, and able to provide him with the training and exercise that he needs. He's a friendly guy but has obviously forgotten where his manners are, if he ever had them. However, the kid has potential (we're optimists). Callahan needs a home without small kids. We're not yet sure how he would do with other dogs. Cats are most likely a no. NOTE: Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.
