Female Dog, Dutch Shepherd

Dutch Shepherd / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed

Description:

Nova is a beautiful Dutch Shepherd mix we think German Shepherd. Due to an injury in her past she is a tripod. When she first came into the shelter she was super terrified and would growl and snap if contact was forced. The shelter was ready to put her down as she was reacting so badly. The previous owner said her ex-boyfriend dumped the dog on her and she had no choice about dropping her at the shelter as she was moving into a no pet place. She did say Nova is good with people, including kids and good with other animals. MAD Rescue stepped in and saved Nova from certain death. Once she was in her temporary foster home it was discovered that the previous owner was correct. Nova is an absolute gem. Sweet, loving and friendly to all, including the household dogs. Aggressive dogs do scare her probably because of her disability. She completely ignores the horses and shows minimal interest in the chickens. Very easily corrected when needed. She has now met cats and usually leaves them alone, but every once and awhile those pesky creatures run right under her nose and spark a little prey drive. Again a simple "no, leave it" has her turning back to her person. She is happy to meet new people, but just a little cautious because it is obvious she has had some abuse in the distant past. The veterinarian that checked Nova out said it is obvious from the xrays that she was shot and that is what necessitated the amputation. Best guess is probably the abuse and the amputation all happened about the same time. Nova loves to have a ball to play with. She will carry it around with her and even fetch for a few throws. So far only one flaw has shown up in Miss Nova. Someone taught her to jump up on a person to say hello. Now that she is a tripod, having that single front paw hit you in the chest can be a good hard punch. We are working on correcting this poor training, but it is obviously been going on for a long time so it is a hard habit to stop. She is trying very hard to be a good girl so I believe the training will go fairly fast.#madlovenovathetripod
