Description:
Tom is a slow-going older dog that is more than happy to lounge around the house with a warm blanket to curl up into. He enjoys going for casual walks around the block and walks excellently on leash, and while he doesn't have much of an interest in chasing toys anymore, he loves sticking close to his people as they move around the yard or in the house.OTHER PETS: Tom didn't show any interest in other dogs while at TJO, but he would likely get along best with another similarly-tempered dog in the home that will co-exist with him. Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)OWNER EXPERIENCE: First DogKIDS: Tom is tolerant of handling and hasn't shown any signs of resource guarding while at TJO, so he would likely be a good match as a low-energy family dog. Interactions between children and dogs should always be actively monitored to ensure that both parties remain comfortable and safe. Likely (Must Meet First)ACTIVITY LEVEL: Tom is a very low-energy dog who is more than happy lazing around on a comfy bed. His best match would likely be a quiet home without a lot of activity. Short amounts of regular exercise combined with mental enrichment will help meet his needs. Couch PotatoVETERINARY CARE: As an older dog, Tom will likely need more frequent routine appointments with a vet to ensure that he continues to age gracefully. At the moment, however, he is in good health and does not have any immediate concerns. Routine / Above AverageLEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Tom not only learn his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner.
