Male Dog, Shih Tzu

Shih Tzu (Medium Coat)

Description:

Ezra arrived at TJO with a possible spinal injury that left him unable to walk for a time. He has since recovered from his condition, and after some time healing with his foster he's ready to find his new home. He is able to walk and play as easily as any other dog, and loves spending time with people -- whether it's outside in the sun or inside curled up on the couch!OTHER PETS: Ezra has gotten along well with other dogs he's met while staying in his foster home, even those that are significantly larger than him. In order to ensure a good match, though, Ezra should meet any dog that he may be living with prior to adoption. Likely (Must Meet First)OWNER EXPERIENCE: Ezra's best match would be someone that has an established relationship with a vet in order to ensure he has access to the care he needs should any problems develop in the future, as well as experience with positive reinforcement. Some ExperienceKIDS: Ezra has been hesitant with children at first, but warms up quickly with patience and a quiet space. He hasn't shown any signs of resource guarding while at the shelter and has been tolerant for handling, so it's likely that he'd make a good family pet. As always, interactions between children and dogs should be actively monitored to ensure that both parties remain comfortable and safe. Likely (Must Meet First)ACTIVITY LEVEL: Ezra seems to adapt well to the energy of his household. He has been playful and affectionate during his stay in a foster home, and he's just as happy going for a walk or playing in the yard as he is curling up on the couch for a good movie. A combination of regular exercise and mental enrichment will help meet his needs. Couch Potato / Good Walking BuddyVETERINARY CARE: While Ezra has since recovered from his injury, it's still possible that some further complications may arise in the future. Someone with an established relationship with a vet would be his best match to ensure that he can receive the care he needs throughout his life. Above AverageLEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Ezra not only learn his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner. MinimalGROOMING: Regular brushing will help keep Ezra's coat clean and matt-free between grooms; he should be groomed every 6 - 8 weeks. Routine Brushing / Professional Grooming
