Female Dog, Pug
Pug (Medium Coat)
Description:
Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization. MEET POSEY! Close your eyes and imagine the most perfect Pug possible - small, adorable, sweet eyes, happy smile, and wrinkles for days. When you open them, Posey will magically manifest! This 4-year-old little girl is the complete, perfect, Pug package! In typical Pug fashion, Posey loves her people! She wants to be near you wherever you are, but she will also go lay and chill on her comfy bed if she feels like it or bask in a ray of sunshine for hours. She lives with two children (10+) and two small female dogs and has gotten fine along with everyone. Prior to foster care, she lived as an only dog, but she is really enjoying the company of her foster sisters and would love to have the same canine companionship in her adoptive home. She has one foster sister that she loves to snuggle and nap with. She has another one who she loves to wrestle and play with - it’s the best of both worlds! Posey has not been formally cat tested, but she has been around the freely roaming cats at the vet’s office and has been fine around them. Posey is the perfect combination of youth and chill. She has spurts of energy when she loves to run around. She will then lay down and nap by your feet for hours at a time. She enjoys her walks very much and is incredibly social with every human and dog she comes across. She was very well socialized as a puppy and it shows! Posey has a spunk and zest for life! Her favorite activity is being with her people, and she would love to be involved in every aspect of your life. She is happy, and friendly, and incredibly sassy. When she needs something, or just wants your attention, she is not shy about letting you know. She has a very low-pitched, adorable bark that she is not shy about showing off! Posey loves to play with stuffies and enjoys chew bones (both natura/animal and nylabone type chews). Posey was surrendered due to ongoing issues with bladder stones and UTIs. She is well on the road to recovery, but due to her history of stones, her people will have to stay on top of her diet and water intake. She should always have fresh water available to her and encouraged to drink it. Posey is on a special diet that is veterinarian-prescribed and costs approximately $65-$70/month. With this type of diet, no other foods are permitted, so either prescription treats or pieces of kibble as treats are all that is allowed. Now that Posey has had surgery to remove the stones from her bladder, she has been able to hold more urine for longer periods of time. She has a potty schedule of about every 6 hours, and she will let you know when she needs to go out. She gets a little water in her food and occasional broth to keep her well hydrated. She is also receiving cranberry supplements and a daily bladder chew. Attention to hygiene around her vulva is also part of her routine pug care. A simple baby wipe after business will help to keep bacteria from creating issues. Posey has had a history of ear infections, but is very good for ear cleaning, so as long as her ears are kept clean, she should do ok. There is very little that Posey needs to work on. As long as her people stay on top of her health, there is very little room for improvement anywhere. She knows some basic commands like sit and had some training in her first home. She is very smart and eager to please, so no doubt she could be a trick pony, if pugs were inclined to obey! Her recall is pretty good and she doesn't wander off. Loves to stay close with her peeps. Posey has not been using a crate in her foster home, but she did travel do foster care in a crate. She gets a little nervous in the car and currently is travelling by car snugged up in a carrier and secured in. She does well with that.
