Male Dog, Cane Corso Mastiff

Cane Corso Mastiff (Medium Coat)

Description:

There are some dogs that quietly steal your heart the moment you meet them — for one of our employees, that dog is Domer.`From the very first day he arrived at the shelter, Domer has stood out. He’s a big, strong Cane Corso with the soul of a puppy and the heart of a lapdog. He doesn’t just enjoy attention — he lives for it. Every time I pass by his kennel, he’s already there at the door, his little tail — or as I call it, his “nublet” — wagging back and forth, waiting patiently and hopefully for some love. The moment you open the door, he gently leans in, asking for head rubs or back scratches — and he’ll stay right there beside you as long as you let him. He is calm, deeply affectionate, and always eager to connect. He’s not pushy — just quietly insistent in the sweetest way, like he knows your time and touch are something special. And to him, they are.I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Domer since he arrived, and he’s more than just another dog at the shelter to me — he’s truly my favorite. Over time, I’ve gotten to know his personality and train him using both basic and informal cues. He knows:SitLay downPaw (shake)StayUp (to get on a bench)Down (to get off a bench)Go (permission to cross a threshold)And informal phrases like “let’s go” and “come on.”He learns quickly — especially if you have the right treats. (Right now, he’ll do just about anything for dried chicken!) But more than that, he learns because he wants to please and be close to you. He’s a sensitive, smart, emotionally intuitive dog who forms strong bonds with the people he trusts. We’re also continuing to work on his leash manners. They’ve improved greatly with consistency and patience, but they still need some polishing. With regular guidance and structure, I have no doubt he’ll get there — he’s already made so much progress.Domer is a dog who deserves to be seen — truly seen — for who he is. Behind his big, powerful frame is a soft-hearted, loyal companion who just wants to love and be loved in return. He would thrive in a home, or with a rescue that can offer him the structure, care, and affection he so deeply craves. There’s something really special about Domer. I hope someone out there sees him the way I do — not just as another shelter dog, but as the incredible soul he is. He’s ready to give his whole heart to someone. He’s just waiting for them to find him.`Domer is in need of an adopter with large breed experience. We will require a dog introduction if there is another resident dog and all members of the household need to meet. Also Domer thinks kids are weird so he is looking for an adult only home.
