Meet Bernie – The Golden-Hearted Gentleman Bernie is a 3-year-old Golden Retriever mix who weighs 59 pounds, and he’s every bit as kind and loving as you’d imagine. This super sweet boy has quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite thanks to his gentle, affectionate nature and easygoing personality. Bernie is dog friendly, calm, and not jumpy—he’s the kind of dog who just wants to be close to his people. He keeps his kennel clean, isn’t destructive, and enjoys car rides, making him a wonderful companion both at home and on the go. He hasn’t been around kids while in our care, but with his patient and loving demeanor, we think he’d be amazing with them. Bernie is cuddly, loyal, and always ready for affection. If you’re looking for a gentle, well-mannered dog who will bring warmth and love to your life, Bernie may be the perfect match. His minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
