Male Dog, Beagle

Beagle / Mixed

Description:

Tiny little Chip is a lap-sized lover! He's just the right size to pick up and and he loves to be cuddled. He's great with other dogs and tolerant of cats. Bonus: in his foster home, Chip is perfectly housetrained! He will come and put his front legs on you and, if that doesn't get your attention, he will bark once. He understands your question, "do you have to go outside or go potty?" Chip arrived as a stray at an Alabama shelter and we were told he had a damaged front leg. After x-rays and thorough examination, it has been determined that quite some time ago he had some kind of injury which severed the nerves which go from his shoulder down his leg. He has no use of his paw or his elbow, but does seems to be able to use the leg some when digging LOL. Although it has atrophied and has a withered appearance, it does not cause him any pain whatsoever, so amputation is neither necessary no recommended. Chip sleeps in a dog bed next to his foster parent's bed and so far has done well with being left at home alone with no destruction or accidents. His energy level is slightly above moderate though, so he needs walks and play time. Chip loves toys and will chew and toss them around and play tug of war. He's pretty good on leash, pulling a bit but could easily be trained. He is confident, curious but also quite vocal. Foster mom says, "he has saved us from the postman, the Amazon driver, our neighbors, squirrels on our roof..." Chip is ready now for his sleepover!
