Meet Toby – A Confident, Loyal Companion with Big Golden Energy Toby is a strikingly handsome, 1.5-year-old Golden Retriever with a big heart, bold personality, and just the right amount of bossiness. This large, lovable guy has had a bumpy start—after his original owner fell ill, Toby was passed through a few homes before coming to us at GRRSWF. Since then, he's been working with one of our dedicated trainers and making great strides. Toby wasn’t given proper socialization early in life, so he’s still learning how to navigate the world—but make no mistake, this boy already knows what he likes. He’s a strong-willed, confident dog who needs clear boundaries and consistent leadership. Toby will thrive in a dog-savvy, adult-only home with someone experienced in handling a confident dog who likes to be in charge. He’s not a match for first-time dog owners, homes with children, or seniors, as he can be a handful both physically and behaviorally. He enjoys the company of other dogs but does best as the only pet in the home, where he can soak up all your attention (and not have to share his toys). He’s happy to have playdates with doggy friends who respect his space, and he’s also cat-tolerant—a nice bonus! Toby is energetic, intelligent, and assertive. He’ll need a securely fenced yard to zoom around in and lots of mental and physical enrichment to keep him engaged and happy. He’s not a couch potato—at least not yet—but with the right guidance, he’ll settle into a balanced, rewarding life.
