From foster: Beaver was a breeder surrender and has been learning to live in a house and how to be a dog. Seeing her learn to be a dog has been really rewarding and her personality is coming out. When she gets really excited, she jumps like a bunny and it's super cute to watch her run with the other dogs like an antelope. She know "outside" and will gladly go outside and play with the other dogs. Because she plays too much, she sometimes forgets to go potty outside. She is a silent dog that we forget she's here unless she's playing with the other dogs. Tug of war is her favorite!!We open feed and she grazes when necessary and has no issues with sharing the food and water bowls with the other dogs. She has learned to use the couch stairs and will cuddle with anything warm on the couch. She is silent in her crate and will sleep through the night.She's becoming more confident every day and is really understanding what it's like to be a dog in a house. She is good with dogs, cats, and chickens.Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance. We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs. Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive. From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs.
