Labrador Retriever

Description:

Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application. Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website. We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run. We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have. Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.General Notes | Duke is an extremely sweet, handsome four-year old purebred brown lab. Duke would make a great family dog with a calm and gentle disposition. After likely spending most of his life as a breeding dog, Duke is curiously acclimating to his new life in CO. Everything seems like a new world to Duke so far, but he's handling things really well. You can bring Duke anywhere and he's very well behaved. He does great in public places and around strangers. So far he's been to the dog park, coffee shop, and a brewery. Whomever gets to adopt Duke will be very lucky! Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Personality | Duke is very playful and loves his toys. He's a quiet, sweet gentleman who would fit into any type of family. He's a big, beautiful teddy bear in lab form.Story | Duke was rescued with eight other labs from a backyard breeder in Missouri. Duke made the journey to Colorado to begin a new, better life.Other Dogs | Duke gets along well with other dogs, but currently being fostered in a home without any dogs. Duke did great at the dog park around all types of other dogs.Cats | Duke hasn't been cat tested. All of the dogs (3 of the 9) pulled from the same breeder that have been cat tested ignore the resident cats so Duke would likely do well with a cat. Children | No exposure to children yet, but Duke is so gentle and calm.Training | Duke is a blank slate who does not appear to have any training. Duke doesn't have any bad behaviors and will need some basic training to learn commands. Duke is quiet and hasn't barked once. Working on crate training as he's reluctant to get in, but does great once he's inside. Duke is house trained and hasn't had any issues inside. Leash | Duke is starting to get used to being on the leash and doing really well! He enjoys a leisurely pace and doesn't pull unless he sees a neighborhood squirrel. Activity Level | Normal level of activityHealth Notes | Duke has a minor ear infection, which is being treated. Duke is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting Duke!Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
