Description:

May 1st is our region's Big Day of Giving, led by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation. Please support our efforts to find a forever home for our darling Lunaa, who has a special heart. To encourage her adoption, we'd like to raise funds to cover the cost of Lunaa's heart medication and cardiology visits, as her heart will be considered a pre-existing condition and not covered by pet insurance. Her cardiology visits have been close to $1,000 with our rescue discount. You can kick off your generosity early with donations starting April 17th. Even a small contribution of just $10 at bigdayofgiving.org/shepheroes can make a difference in the lives of abandoned and at-risk shepherds across Northern California. Join us in creating change—together, we can transform lives!Lunaa is our pup with an extraordinary heart; she's been diagnosed with moderate to severe subaortic stenosis, a congenital heart condition that can only be managed with medication. Her medication is manageable, with GoodRx coupons ranging from $7 to $22 per month, depending on the pharmacy of choice. She'll need periodic cardiology visits as she continues to grow for dosage adjustment of her beta-blocker. Her next visit will be at one year of age. She's an adorable, petite, beautiful, and gentle pup, ready to charm her way into your heart. Lunaa currently lives with one of our alum shepherds in her foster home, whose family recently said goodbye to their other senior dog, who adored Lunaa. Their tug plays and sharing a crate for snuggles were precious. Lunaa is crate-trained and chooses to settle down for daytime naps and nighttime sleeping in her crate. She mastered the doggy door right away and was completely potty trained in a few days. Since Lunaa's a treat enthusiast, treats have quickly allowed her to master the "sit" and "down" commands, ensuring she gets all the love she deserves without jumping. When she's excited, her light, delicate jumps make her even more charming. Lunaa is good on a leash and adores water. Her kiddie pool may be her favorite entertainment, and this girl loves all kinds of toys she collects into her crate to sleep with. Lunaa also lives with two cats and is cat-workable. Lunaa is a perfect co-pilot in the car, settling in comfortably for rides. She was equally lovely during her plane ride from San Jose to Sacramento with Pilots n Paws for her spay surgery appointment. Her vet visits only confirmed what we knew—she is a delight! Lunaa's heart condition was discovered during her pre-surgery exam for her spay; she was promptly seen by the UCDVMTH Cardiology department, who recommended that she start on a beta-blocker immediately and delay her spay for one month. At her follow-up cardiology visit, Lunaa was cleared for surgery. She came through her spay surgery without any complications and recovered easily. During her vet visits, Lunaa won hearts and has a team rallying for her. Although Lunaa had two vet visits before her pre-surgery exam, the heart murmur had gone unnoticed. Since she had been fostered in San Jose prior to her first spay surgery visit, it made sense for Lunaa to remain within close proximity to the UCDVMTH Cardiology Dept in Davis. So Lunaa switched from her first foster home, where she was a solo pup, to her current foster home. Her first foster home was incredibly supportive throughout the week she experienced panosteitis, aka growing pains, a painful inflammation of the outer surface of long bones commonly seen in young, rapidly growing large breed dogs. We're happy that she hasn't experienced panosteitis again. In her first foster home, we learned that she's very dog-social and enjoys playing with other pups. She has frequent doggie play dates now and enjoys seeing the young kids in her neighborhood. We were able to connect with Lunaa's littermate's forever family, another female pup, to inform them of Lunaa's diagnosis. They headed to their vet for a check up and her heart was found to be healthy. Lunaa, with her gentle spirit, will need a forever family who understands that their time with her may be limited. We would love her future family to offer her love and support as an active puppy, cherishing every moment they have together. This precious time with Lunaa is a gift, and those who embrace her will genuinely treasure the bond they create. Have you visited our YouTube channel?
