Teenager Tilly was timid upon arrival at the Shelter, and a is still a bit wary of handling by new folks at first, but she warms up quickly if you give her a little time and respect her body language. Patience and cheesey treats are her love language! Once comfortable – she solicits pets, belly rubs and gives sweet kisses. Tilly has attended small dog playgroup with two other pups and coexisted nicely while exploring and romping in a safely fenced area. Adopters should be extra mindful in the transition to bringing Tilly home as she can be a bit flighty (likely to run and not return if she gets away out of a fenced-in area and/or off leash). Management through baby gates, leashes, and securely-fitted harnesses while Tilly is acclimating to her adoptive home will set the whole family up for success as she settles in and bonds with her new family. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
