Female Dog, German Shepherd Dog

German Shepherd Dog / Anatolian Shepherd / Mixed (Medium Coat)

Description:

Meet Star Gazer, the German Shepherd Anatolian Shepherd mix! This sweetheart came to the Shelter after being spotted on the side of the road by a good Samaritan. The good sam saw her for a few days with some “stuff” (a dog bowl, bed, etc). On the 6th day of seeing the dog out by itself on the side of the road, the good sam worked to gain her trust and get her in a crate to bring her to the Shelter for safety. It, understandably, took Star Gazer a few days to warm up to staff and volunteers but she her sweet personality has started to shine through. She has a harness that she enjoys walking in and likes to look at it hanging on her kennel door, then look at people, as if to say – “get my stuff and let’s go!” Staff have observed that Star Gazer enjoys attention once she is comfortable and leans in for pets. When seeing other dogs, she can be vocal (typical to her breed) but as she gets closer, she sniffs and participated in some play. A home with another dog may be a fit after a meet ‘n greet at the Shelter. Star Gazer is looking to meet her match. Could that be you? The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
