Male Dog, Australian Shepherd

Australian Shepherd / Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Mixed (Medium Coat)

Description:

Meet Buckwheat! This short stack of a pup came into the Shelter with four other dogs as a stray. We aren’t too sure of their backgrounds or exact breeds but we suspect aussie, corgi, pittie mixes based on their looks? We aren’t exactly sure but he’d be a cool dog to do a DNA test on! Buckwheat has been a social butterfly with people since his arrival at the Shelter. Buckwheat is a bit of an undersocialized guy but he has a great attitude and willingness to learn and engage. Walking on leash is still something he is perfecting so adopters should have some patience and plan to work through positive reinforcement based training to help him learn to walk on leash without tying up his favorite people around the ankles with the leash!Buckwheat came into the Shelter with other dogs and may enjoy a canine companion in the next home. Any resident dogs are required to meet prior to adoption. Buckwheat's adoption fee is sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation thanks to “Leave No One Behind fund” – designed to adopter’s eyes towards animals who have been in the Shelter’s care a little longer than average waiting for the right adopter. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
