Male Dog, Vizsla
Vizsla / Mixed (Medium Coat)
Description:
Meet Adam! This handsome mixed breed came to the Shelter after having a bit of a rough start at life. When you first meet him, he is often shy and avoidant. But with time and patience (and the company of a friendly, playful dog) â Adam blossoms into quite the adolescent sweetheart. He spent several weeks in a foster home with a family including their resident dog and some dog-savvy kitties. The foster reports: âAdam is a very sweet shy boy. Heâs fantastic with other dogs, he plays and cuddles with my dog daily. Heâs respectfully curious about my cats but doesnât bother with them much. He is somewhat like a young puppy in that heâs learning appropriate chewing behaviors with household items and how to hold his bladder overnight. Adam is quite shy. He doesnât growl but he will hide or shut down when stressed. He takes a while to feel comfortable around new people but if they give him the time and space to warm up he does get much better. He gets excited to go out on a walk but finds walks themselves intimidating. It can feel like heâs on the run from something scary and heâs very happy to go back into the house at the end. At times he gets so into a smell that he does relax.â If you are looking for a BFF for your resident dog and have the time, patience and environment to help a shy dog blossom to being part of your family â consider meeting Adam. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
