Male Dog, Chihuahua

Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed

Description:

Diego is a good boy, likes to be close to you when you're sitting around and working on the computer. He's crate trained, and likes hanging out in his crate during the day when you're away from home. At night, he learned very quickly to sleep on a bed on the floor, without trying to jump on my bed. He sleeps quietly until you're ready to get up and let him out. Diego gets very excited to go for a walk, and gets vocal when he sees you putting on your shoes. This is a behavior we're working to extinguish right now. Diego is nervous around new people. He needs an adopter who will understand from dog stress signs and only let him approach them. Diego is not a fit for young children in the home, as children can be unpredictable and make him nervous. Diego's adopters should understand that they should not stick their hands in his face unpredictably, he should be only calmly petted, especially by new people. Once he knows and trusts you, he will roll over for belly rubs. Diego is an affectionate dog, but it's best that he goes to a calm home where he can feel secure. Diego loves to play fetch! He's also good with other dogs in the home. Diego can be a little leash reactive, where he barks and pulls towards other dogs. This is a behavior we're also working on using positive reinforcement. Energy Level? Medium House trained? Mostly Describe how they are on leash? He pulls ahead initially but not hard, and will walk better after a few minutes. Working on leash manners. Describe how they are with other dogs? Good in the same household. Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they? Yes, Diego has lived with cats in his previous home. Commands they know? Sit, going into his crate with a visual signal What are their favorite things? Playing fetch What do they need to work on? leash manners, he can benefit from more basic obedience cues. How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone? Good. Up to 8 hours in his previous home. Where do they sleep? Crate during the day, on a dog bed on the floor at night. What is their ideal home? Adult only home, with people who are experienced around nervous dogs and understand stress signs.
