Meet Elvira Elvira is a quiet, gentle soul who’s learning that the world can be kind again. On her Doggie Day Out, she showed just how sweet and curious she really is. She may start off reserved, and she can flinch at sudden touches, suggesting she’s had a rough past, but she still leans in for face and head scratches once she trusts you. With patience and love, she’ll blossom into the most loyal companion.Elvira is a wonderful mix of explorer and lounger. She loved strolling through Old Sacramento, sniffing everything along the way (with adorable little grunts!), before relaxing by the riverbank in the shade. Though unsure of the water at first, she soon discovered she liked dipping her paws and drinking straight from the river. She wasn’t interested in pup cups, but a hamburger patty? She devoured it gently, even eating politely from her handler’s hand.She walks well on leash with light guidance, enjoys taking in the sights, and has a calm, steady energy that makes her a joy to be around. At the shelter, she’s paired with another dog, so with the right introduction, she may enjoy the company of a canine friend in her forever home.Elvira is searching for a patient and loving family who will give her the chance to feel safe, adored, and free to be her sweet, silly self.
