Female Dog, Australian Shepherd

Australian Shepherd / Mixed (Medium Coat)

Description:

“Princess Grace” is an easy, happy, and very lovable dog. She LOVES walks and does beautifully on leash - even with lots of "dog traffic" she is a superstar! Grace gets very excited to go for a walk and enjoys every minute of it. So it is extra fun to watch her arrive back at home and do crazy zoomies in the backyard. She also enjoys car rides, and has a lot of fun playing hide and seek with her foster mom. Grace's foster mom describes her as "a dream dog" -- she lounges happily while foster mom does desk work, and loves to accompany her for garden chores. Grace thrives on cuddles and attention. She is a beautiful, interesting companion and a bit of an "old soul" with a silly, joyful spirit. Grace is *exceptionally* well-behaved in the home. While trustworthy and independent, she also likes check in for pets and bellyrubs. Grace currently weighs a fluffy 55 pounds, with a healthy goal weight of a bit less than 50 pounds. We were told that Grace became possessive of food and toys in her prior home, and that young children made her anxious. She will SHINE as an only dog with access to a large, fenced backyard of her own. (Not a candidate for apartment living or a dog-parks lifestyle.) Grace maintains a cat- and bunny-free yard, but is not an obsessive barker - even with one living nearby… Princess Grace's new home will be in the Phoenix metro area, for proximity to our rescue (home checks, follow up visits, visit to finalize adoption) and access to our veterinarian. Sorry, no exceptions! Our adoptions begin with a Foster-To-Adopt period, which is not feasible with remote placements. If you believe you're a good match for her, please complete our adoption application , detailing your experience with training and socializing herding breeds. • "Fenced yard" means, a backyard that is adjacent to and connected with your residence and owned by you or your landlord. (It does not mean a nearby fenced area or dog park or apartment/condo dog play area.) • Gates must have padlocks and thresholds (cement or buried pavers to prevent digging.) • Yard and patio must be free of debris and have room for dogs to run and play on a lawn and/or in a very shaded area. Please do not invite us to your home if you have not yet landscaped your yard! • We will not place a dog in a home that has a "drained" or empty swimming pool (fall hazard and contributes to the propogation of mosquitos.) • We DO NOT adopt to students as we have found that they often do not know or anticipate where life will take them. Discussion about a dog - including scheduling of a home check or other dialogue - cannot occur until we have received your completed adoption application. NO EXCEPTIONS. Thank you!
