Male Dog, Alaskan Malamute

Alaskan Malamute / Doberman Pinscher / Mixed (Medium Coat)

Description:

Grizz (A140279) is a 2-year-old AK Malamute x Doberman Pinscher mix who weighed just over 100 pounds on intake! 04/11/26 Grizz is back at the shelter because his most recent home did not feel they were the best fit for him after trying to make it work for months. Grizz can be anxious when left alone. He is looking for a home that is willing to continue working with him on training, including basic obedience and kennel training. Grizz is very food motivated, so he should adjust to positive reinforcement training easily! In his most recent home, Grizz was said to do well with kids and strangers. He was also said to get along with other dogs. However, he can play really rough, and he is a large dog, so make sure any introductions are done slowly and monitor for subtle stress signals in either dog that could indicate they are uncomfortable. Fear Free Pets has a lot of great resources on stress signals and proper introductions. Grizz has also been known to get into the trash and generally anything food related, so make sure that it is all kept out of reach and tucked away. While he was said to be housebroken, he has sometimes marked inside, so he may need some reminders on potty training. If you are interested in meeting Grizz, please give us a call!11/29/25 Mister Grizz is back at the shelter due to an unexpected deployment. Grizz's most recent owner had wonderful things to say about him! Grizz was said to do great with humans of all ages, as well as other dogs. He still has no experience with cats or other animals. He was said to be kennel trained and housebroken and to ride well in the car. HE knows a few commands, such as sit and lay down. Grizz does still need some help with his manners, particularly on a leash! If you are interested in meeting this big goof, please give us a call!11/13/25 These goofy boys are Grizz and Chevy! They were surrendered to the shelter due to no fault of their own and were described as awesome dogs. They were said to do great with people of all ages including babies and children. Chevy and Grizz were also described as friendly towards other dogs, but we have noticed at the shelter that they have not always been thrilled with dogs that are nearby. Making slow, safe, and controlled introductions is very important in helping set these boys up for success. They have no experience with cats, pocket pets, or livestock. Chevy and Grizz were stated to be housebroken, ride well in a car, and know their basic commands. However, they are both young boys who would benefit from attending a basic obedience class to continue working on their manners. They were said to enjoy playing and cuddling! If you are interested in meeting Chevy or Grizz, please let us know!
