Captain (A132361) is a 3-year-old lab who weighed over 50 pounds at intake!05/03/25 This rambunctious and rowdy canine is Captain, Captain Morgan in formal company. Captain arrived at the shelter due to no fault of his own. He can be quite boisterous in personality, but he is a great companion! He was said to ride well in the car and to be kennel trained and housebroken. He knows quite a few commands, including sit, down, up, stay, paw and other paw. He will even follow non-verbal hand commands for these! Captain can be vocal, especially when meeting people he doesn't know. He does like the sound of his own voice. He was said to do well with humans of all ages, but he does not have good body awareness. He has been known to unintentionally knock little ones over. Captain does need some help with his manners. He has been known to jump on counters and people and has quite of bit of energy and nowhere to put it! Physical and mental stimulation will be necessary in his next home. Enrolling him in a basic obedience class can also help hone his manners and provide an outlet. Captain has never been around cats or other animals. He was said to get along with dogs, but he is not good at introductions. He can come across very strong, which may not be well received by other dogs. Please do any and al introductions slowly and in a controlled manner to allow for the best possible outcome. Captain has been known to get into the trash and chew. He also knows how to get over fences, so make sure he is on a secure tie out or leash when outside. If you are interested in meeting this exuberant young man, please give the shelter a call!
