Checkers Not long ago, I was someone’s sweet, playful kitten. They must have seen how adorable I was, and told themselves that they were meant to be my family. They bought me toys and food and a litter box . . . but something changed. I don’t know what. I’m a cat, so I don’t understand the ways of the humans. All I know is that one day, I went outside, and when I came back home . . . there was no home. My family was gone, and they’d left me behind. I’m a resilient guy, but I’m not made to survive on my own. Last winter, some nearby humans provided food and a shelter, helping me to survive those weeks and weeks of bitter cold. Then the inevitable happened: I got hurt. Thanks to the Forever Friends Foundation, I got rescued in time. Now I’m healthy, neutered, and indoors. I’m cool with the foster humans. I let them pet me and give me bits of chicken. But I can’t quite settle in. I don’t really feel safe. I’m waiting for my family to come and get me. Not the old family, but my real family – my forever family that will love me and never leave me behind. I’ll know when I meet them. I’ll know when I go home. I’m hoping the 3 leaf clover on my back will finally bring me some good luck and I’ll finally be able to stop being scared, and once again become the playful, happy little dude I was born to be.
