Male Cat, Domestic Short Hair

Domestic Short Hair (Short Coat)

Description:

Cecil - Male DOB 4/30/2014 Domestic Short Hair - Black Cecil and Molly have been each other’s constant through a rough start in life, and now they’re hoping to share their futures together. For years, they lived mostly overlooked in a small room crowded with other cats, never really knowing what a gentle touch or a sunny window could feel like. When they arrived in our care, both were in pain from dental issues, but after necessary treatments and lots of patience, they’ve started to heal—not just physically, but emotionally, too. Cecil is a sweet senior guy who wasn’t sure at first if people could be trusted. Once his mouth felt better, he began to realize that human hands can bring comfort. These days, he’s still a bit cautious when a hand reaches for him, but once he’s sure you mean well, he melts into pets and even lifts his rump in appreciation when your hand glides over his back. Cecil is fine with other cats and would be happiest staying with Molly, his longtime buddy who has stood by him through thick and thin. Both Cecil and Molly have come a long ways and just recently have been venturing out of their comfortable quiet room and exploring in our bigger main room with all the other cats. They have become a lot more comfortable with getting pets and trusting people. It has been such a joy watching both of them grow and thrive since being in our care. Molly will even rub up against our legs now while letting volunteers pet her gently and actually enjoying it now. Molly has also been on her own journey of learning to trust. She had most of her teeth removed to ease her pain, and it’s made a huge difference in how she feels. She can still be wary, especially if a hand comes too quickly or from a spot she can’t see, but she truly does enjoy being petted—slowly and gently, from the top of her head down. A grooming glove works wonders for her if she’s calm and relaxed. She’s been making steady progress in our quiet room, even purring while volunteers give her chin and face rubs, which felt like a huge milestone. She likes to spend time in boxes sprinkled with catnip, watching the world go by from a safe, cozy place. They’re hoping to find a calm home together, one with sunny windows to explore and a caring, cat-savvy person who understands that trust takes time. No dogs, other cats, or children would be best, just a peaceful space where they can continue learning that life can be kind after all.
