Description:

*This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Poika is a super sweet, loving, and silly *diabetic* senior boy. He likes to meet new people and be social. He can be quite vocal, like when he is excited, or hungry, or when you touch his belly too much. He loves to communicate, sometimes even with just his eyes! I catch him staring at me almost every time I look at him. He is so funny, and he does something very often called “phantom spraying”! He will aim his bottom at something and do a little wiggle acting as if he is “spraying” or marking it, but nothing actually comes out. It is completely harmless and ADORABLE! He loves to look out a good window, though his eyesight is not the best, or find a cozy spot to take a snooze. The quickest way to his heart is brushes, though! He can just lay and be brushed all day! He also LOVES cat nip! *Poika needs insulin shots two times a day and prescription food.* Because of his illness, he can become moody and anxious/irritable. His ideal home would be quiet, and he should not be allowed around small children. He does get along well with most cats but can get overstimulated if there are cats fighting around him; so other mellow cats or other pets who are not high energy are just fine! A little history: Poika was surrendered to a shelter due to his then undiagnosed health issues. Once in the shelter, it was discovered that he is diabetic. We do not know how long that went untreated, but once treated, he has improved in great strides! Initially he could not walk or stand very well, his limbs were skinny and his belly was big. After only a few weeks, he started walking and jumping again! His body is much more proportionate, his eyes are clearer, and he seems so happy! We are uncovering his true personality through managing his health and well being, and it is a true gift! Poika is undergoing treatment for Diabetes. Poika is from a local impound.
