Female Cat, Domestic Short Hair
Domestic Short Hair (Short Coat)
Description:
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Pancake is a lovely 7 year old girl. Here's what her foster volunteers say about her: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Pancake is very playful, and likes lots of playtime with her humans! She is also super curious, wanting to smell all the smells, view all the views, and explore every shelf and corner of her surroundings. She can be rambunctious and will bring so much laughter to your home. Pancake is also needy. She likes to be nearby her humans as much as possible (but that doesn’t always mean she wants to be touched!) She just really likes to be around you, and she’s also okay with meeting your friends! Does the cat enjoy being pet? :Yes If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Pancake loves head and behind ear scratches. Also fully body pets from her head to her tail. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? Pancake does not like stomach pets. And generally needs a gentle introduction to petting. She will shrink away or swipe out with her paw if you just go straight for pets before letting her sniff your hand. Does the cat come on your lap? Not so far, but there seems to be potential as she becomes more comfortable with you. She doesn’t come sit directly on my lap but will sit on the couch next to me :) Does the cat like to be held? Not particularly, but she will tolerate it. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes, she has recently started to sleep in my bed more. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes. Does the cat like to play? YES What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Chasing the light from her laser pointers. Running through her pop-up tunnel. Chasing a string (but you have to be very creative on luring her or else she will quickly get bored). How vocal is the cat? Pancake will meow lots when she is hungry and if she wants to play! During the first 48-72 hours Pancake might growl at unfamiliar/loud noises in her new environment. But she is a fast adjuster and we haven’t heard her growl since the very first 2 days. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Mostly purrs and meows. Her meows are soft and high pitched. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, pancake has a scratch board and a scratch post that she likes to use. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Fancy feast wet food, once in the morning and once in the evening. Dry kibble (any brand) through out the day/night, but only a little bit at a time! Is the cat picky about food? Unknown What is the cat's favorite treat? Delectables squeeze up Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, if you test Pancake's patience she will swat. But she will give you warning meows before using her claws (usually). Just make sure to give her time to sniff your hand before petting her, and don’t reach out to pet her directly from in front of her. She likes it when your hand comes from beside or behind her head rather than right towards her face. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?: Yes, see above. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?: No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)?: No To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Pancake is pretty chill with new people! She isn’t overly friendly or interested, but also doesn’t runaway/hide or get visibly uncomfortable by them. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? Pancake is also very food motivated and will let you know when it’s time to eat. She should only only be in a one cat house-hold. She is perfectly fine with humans, but not other cats. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Pancake is a complete sweetheart and a diva at the same time. She makes her humans feel incredibly loved and needed, and it genuinely makes you want to be the best pet owner you can possibly be in return. Pancake is a true companion and will become your best friend, offering you plenty of amusement, laughter, and affection every day. In the words of Pancake’s previous owner, “Pancake is going to be a loving and vocal addition to your home. I was so honored to love and care for her for over 4 years, but I know you will love and care for her too. May Pancake bring you all of the joy and love that she did for me.” What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Pancake’s mood can be hard to read at times, and I think it’s because she often doesn’t know exactly how she feels or what her own comfort level is in a new environment. So one moment she might be ok with lots of head scratching, and the next she might realize she’s in this unfamiliar place with an unfamiliar person, and get a bit scared and defensive. As long as you are consistently patient and gentle, Pancake will become patient and gentle in return! We have been her fosters for only a week and our connection with Pancake has grown immensely as she has come out of her shell. There are still moments when I’m not sure if she wants lots of physical attention or to be left alone, but every day we get to know her better, and everyday she lets us in a bit more :) To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.
