Female Cat, Domestic Short Hair
Domestic Short Hair (Short Coat)
Description:
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Magoun is a shy but sweet 1 year old girl. Here's what her foster humans say about her: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Magoun is a very shy, but very sweet cat. She is still learning to be comfortable around humans but has come a long way in the short time we’ve had her. She’s very play oriented, and string toys will be the way to her heart. Does the cat enjoy being pet? She doesn’t particularly enjoy it but she lets us pet her without issue. She has the softest fur of any cat ever! The first few times we tried to pet her she let out tiny hisses, but she no longer does that and now just lets us pet her. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Given how much time she likes to spend in cat towers and cat huts, we have stuck to the top of her head and the back of her neck. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? None that we have discovered so far! Does the cat come on your lap? Not at this time. We have only had her for a few weeks and so we are still working on gaining her trust. That being said, she allows us to pet her at any time. Does the cat like to be held? We haven’t yet tried to pick her up. My guess is that she would be pretty squirmy if we tried but not hostile or aggressive in any way. Does the cat sleep in your bed? For the time being, we are keeping Magoun in a foster room with two other foster cats, so she has not had the chance. My guess is that if we left her door open, she would choose to stay in the foster room at first before eventually exploring the rest of the house. Does the cat seek your attention? Not particularly because she is still so shy, but she is making progress with us every day. For example, for this first time this week she started eating in front of us, whereas previously she would always wait until we had left the room. Does the cat like to play? Yes! Once she settles into her environment she is very playful. This will be the fastest and easiest way to gain her trust. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? So far she seems most interested in string toys. How vocal is the cat? She has not made any sound so far. Her forever home won’t need to worry about a midnight chorus of mews! What kinds of sounds does the cat make? None so far. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Not that we have seen, but they are always available in her foster room. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, she uses the litter box regularly and has had no issues with incontinence or accidents. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Right now we are free feeding her dry food throughout the day, and giving her a can of wet food every evening. Is the cat picky about food? No, Magoun eats anything that we put in front of her! What is the cat's favorite treat? Churu treats are her favorite, but she is still somewhat shy and not always enthusiastic about treats. She seems to be more play driven that food driven. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No, Magoun has never swatted at us. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No, she has never scratched us. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No, Magoun has never nipped us. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No, she has never bitten us. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She hasn’t had the chance to meet strangers since she’s been living with us, but my guess is that she would be pretty reserved and not approach them. Magoun has been on the shyer side during the time that we’ve known her, but she is very sweet and approachable. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? She has incredibly soft fur. She’s got a couple of black spots on her nose that are adorable. She’s got big, golden eyes that convey curiosity and a desire to build trust. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Magoun is a sweet girl who seems to have had a difficult past but doesn’t let that cause her to act aggressively in any way. She has made a ton of progress in the short time we’ve had her but still needs to continue to develop her trust with humans. She does fantastic with other cats as she shares a room with two others fosters. Once we saw her snuggling with one of our others fosters, but she is usually fairly independent so she might do fine as a solo cat too. If you are looking for a beautiful, sweet but sometimes shy cat who needs a good home to finally settle down for good, Magoun is your girl! What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? The biggest challenge has been her shyness, and whoever adopts her will need to understand that it will take time before she approaches them and seeks attention. Instead, she prefers to sit safely in a cat tower or cat hut when people are around, and our camera tells us she is most active when the room is empty of people or at nighttime. She does great with others cats but is independent enough that she could be a solo cat too. Whoever adopts her must understand that it may be a few months before Magoun develops trust and confidence, and that it is important to give her the time she needs to come out of her shell on her terms. She is always happy to play with a string toy and allows being petted just fine!
